Following Motorola's footsteps, Asus has slashed the prices of its recently launched Eee Pad Transformer in India. From the previous Rs. 32,999, the price has come down to Rs. 29,622 (as listed on Flipkart.com). The company has not yet disclosed the factors which led to the price reduction. Earlier, Motorola India also revised the price of its recently launched Honeycomb tablet, Motorola Xoom.
It's notable that the Transformer and Xoom are now both priced at an almost equal price, so we are likely to see more competition in the top-end tablet segment. The new prices of the Xoom start at Rs. 29,990. The 3G version of Motorola is now priced at Rs. 35,590. Check out our previous coverage on the Xoom price cut here.
To remind you, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer comes with a 10.1-inch IPS display, and the keyboard dock it is named after. The device is powered by the 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 SoC processor and is equipped with 1GB of RAM. The Transformer has an 8-hour long battery back up. Check out other specs of the Eee Pad Transformer here.
It is being speculated that Asus has slashed prices of the device in view of its upcoming tablet, the Transformer 2. Asus' new tablet is expected to be launched later this year, so it is quite possible the company wants to clear stocks of the 1st-gen Transformer quickly.
