Symantec has unveiled what it calls “the first comprehensive data loss prevention” solution for tablet computers. The company says the new DLP solution will help monitor and protect sensitive information on tablets.
Initially available for the Apple iPad, Symantec’s DLP solution for tablet also includes a content-aware protection feature. The solution will be priced per tablet. A DLP solution for Android tablets will follow soon.
Symantec says its new solution is mainly designed for its existing Symantec DLP customers and is intended to work with corporate and personal email, web communications and other normal tablet apps. The solution will protect confidential data even if the device is connected through Wi-Fi or 3G. According to Symantec, its DLP for tablet will help organisations monitor and control the transmission of confidential data from these devices.
Symantec’s DLP solution comes integrated with a number of other security measurements such as encryption solutions, which includes full disk encryption and server solutions. The tablet solution will also work with Symantec’s PGP Viewer for iOS. The viewer enables users to send, receive and view encrypted messages on iOS devices.
Symantec’s new solution comes in the backdrop of growing need for keeping data secure on mobile devices, especially tablets that are being extensively used at the workplaces. Symantec recently launched Norton Mobile Security For Android, a mobile antivirus suite to secure your phone against malware and other nuisances.
